The first book in Scott Westerfeld’s hit series, “Uglies” is a sinister sci-fi novel of stupendous evil. Bringing to light the darkness of the world we live in and the flaws of our civilisation. Truly brilliant.

Tally Youngblood is waiting. She’s waiting until her sixteenth birthday when she can finally turn from an Ugly into a Pretty. Being the last of her friends to be stuck waiting in Uglyville, Tally has become anxious and seeks out her old friend Peris, a post-operation Pretty Tally used to call friend. With the help of a like-minded Ugly named Shay, Tally realises that the Pretty world isn’t all that it seems.

A truly fascinating read, deep with grim themes of the falsehoods of body image and beauty. I would recommend this book and its sequels to anyone looking for an interesting read.

Another masterpiece from the master of concept, I rate this book four stars out of five.

PrettiesSequel to “Uglies” and the second book in Scott Westerfeld’s phenomenal book series “Uglies”, Pretties’ continuation of Westerfeld’s ground-breaking novel is one of perfection and awe.

Tally Youngblood is Pretty at last, and the trickiest new-pretty in New-Pretty-Town. She has all she ever wanted; a bubbly clique of friends, dazzled with fame among all Pretties, a golden ticket to go wherever she wants and a hole in the wall that can gives her whatever she wants. But Tally is unhappy. With David and the Smoke, a distant memory, blockaded by pretty-mindedness, Tally tries her hardest to keep herself “bubbly.” But the dragon awaits her in the darkness, watching her every

Ridden with sinister symbolism, arousing thought in even the stubbornest of readers Pretties overshadows its prequel in its powerful messages and fascinating story. I would recommend this to sci-fi and concept fans everywhere.

I rate this book four and a half out of five stars.

What now?
