Leviathan trailer is here

BOOK REVIEW/TRAILER                                                                                                (Staff, 7-9, 10-12)

leviathan-coverScott Westerfeld’s Leviathan, his new science fiction, steampunk alternate WWI series, is coming out October 6 2009 (October 18 in Australia).

Watch the trailer ….

His blog gives a synopsis of the story:

Prince Aleksander, would-be heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, is on the run. His own people have turned on him. His title is worthless. All he has is a battletorn war machine and a loyal crew of men.

Deryn Sharp is a commoner, disguised as a boy in the British Air Service. She’s a brilliant airman. But her secret is in constant danger of being discovered.

With World War I brewing, Alek and Deryn’s paths cross in the most unexpected way…taking them on a fantastical, around-the-world adventure that will change both their lives forever.

Scott  talks about working with his illustrator for Leviathan, fantasy artist, Keith Thompson, in this video

If you’d like to see some of Keith Thompson’s illustrations, click here. I love them; what do you think?

I can’t wait for this book! Meanwhile, you can also get an audio version. Scott Westerfeld includes a snippet of this in his blog post where he talks about the voice behind the two main characters:

I got to meet and hang out with Alan Cumming, the voice talent for the audio version, and listen to him work.

So, if you want to hear a preview of the audio version, go to the post.

And as if that’s not enough for starters, you can read the first chapter here.
